Public transport in Oxford is safe, reliable and very regular. It is popular with young people and widely used.
From Monday to Saturday, a CES organised bus will take you to the Ruskin campus for breakfast. The first bus will leave the Parade Green at 07.:15 in the morning and the next bus will be around 07:40 in the morning. If you sleep in too late and miss the first bus, then there will not be space in the later one because those seats have already been assigned. You will be assigned a bus BUT if you do not take up your place, then you will need to use public transport. This is very easy and reliable.
In the evenings, you will need to make your own way back to Parade Green from the Ruskin campus for any evening activities there.
Public buses are very regular (see the timetable for bus number 10 and bus number 100) and leave from the bus stop immediately outside the Parade Green Complex at the bus stop called Paul Kent Hall and take you to near the Ruskin Campus, to the bus stop called Manor Surgery. The U5 and 100 bus will also take you to and from the city centre.
We strongly recommend that you download the app “UK Bus Checker” from the Google Play Store or the Apple store. This will show you live times of buses from the stop that you choose.
On Saturdays and Sundays, you will need to make your own way to Ruskin Campus for a traditional breakfast and to pick up your packed lunch, using public transport. Make sure you do this, or you will not get your lunch pack!!
Ruskin College is a beautiful campus in the Old Headngton area of the city. It is a lovely green campus, with 10 classrooms and a canteen. All of your meals are taken at Ruskin College and some parts of your social programme will happen here.
Many evening social activities will take place at Parade Green so you will need to return there, via public transport, after your dinner in the evening to take part. The only event planned in the evening at Ruskin College will be the disco on Thursday night. This will finish at 21:00 and you will need to travel back to Parade Green with your group or our staff on public transport.
We have access to Parade Green from 29/06 – 13/07. On the last day, all students will move to Dorset House for the rest of the summer. We will help move their bags in the morning. See our page about Beech and Dorset House for more information about these residences.
If you cause any damage to the room or the property, we will expect you to pay for the damage before you leave
Make sure you keep your room locked and any money or valuables in a locked suitcase. Remember, the UK uses debit and credit cards for almost all purchases. You really don’t need to bring lots of cash with you.
We expect all students to be in their flats by 22:00 and in their own rooms by 22:30. We do have a checking system in place and students breaking the curfew will face disciplinary action.
